There are three lenses to consider when reflecting on game experiences and my own personal game idea development.
The lens of projection
Is the player able to do something that they otherwise wouldn't be able to do in reality?
What features are the players able to relate to?
Are there characters that the player would like to meet or interesting places that the player would like to visit?
Lens of beauty
Elements of the game that are made to look beautiful.
What elements have been combines to make it seem more beautiful?
What is beauty in context to the game?
What is going to visually excite and impress the players?
Lens of inherent interest
What aspects of the game immediately attract the platers attention?
Does or will the game allow the player to do something that they have never done before, does it proved a unique experience?
What are the base instincts of the game? And what is intuitive?
What are the games higher instincts?
Is there dramatic change? In perhaps events or transformation?
When working on my ideation and development, I will refer back to these questions to appropriately inform my design decisions.
