Game Review - One Shot

After sharing my amazing game moment with the class and discussing what makes everyone game moments successful, I was tasked to take one other persons game moment and review it.

OneShot is an indie game, developed by Little Cat Feet and published by Degica, that was released in 2016 on Steam. It is a top-down adventure puzzle game where your role is to guide a child through a dark and strange world to restore the sun.

Throughout the game you as a player develop a relationship with the player-character through dialogue and action choices. A unique feature is that the game interacts with files on your computer which I think works really well to express the essential experience of the game which is to make the player feel like they are part of the game.

The game focuses on player and character interaction and much of the dialogue is very personal which i think helps the player to feel like the game-choices that they make really matter; that the consequences are real.

I think that this game mostly relates to the lens of inherent interest as it allows the player to have a unique experience that they may not have done before. The relationship that the player forms with the player-character is very special and not something I have personally seen elsewhere. This is definitely one of the main selling points for the game experience. I think that the choice making in this game also reflects the lens of inherent interest. Players are able to have a higher power and make decisions that they would not be able to in real life such as deciding whether to save the protagonist or sacrifice them for the other characters.
